Morphology

My research in morphology focuses on size morphology, diminutives and augmentatives, with particular attention to Brazilian Portuguese. I investigate how these formations interact with grammatical gender, theme vowels, the size and lexical category of the base, phonological processes, and interpretive restrictions.

Size morphology

Full-length manuscript in preparation

This project develops a unified account of Brazilian Portuguese size morphology. Working within Distributed Morphology, I argue that apparently simple size morphemes are internally complex and may combine with bases in different structural configurations. The analysis connects the distinction between root- and word-based formation to patterns involving gender, theme vowels, phonological opacity, and idiomatic interpretation.
